National Day Golden Week
The annual 7-day holiday for Golden week begins this year on Sunday 1st October and is set to end Saturday 7th October. These national holidays were first started by the government in 1999 to celebrate the formation of the People’s Republic of China.Primarily intended to help expand the domestic tourism market and to allow people to make long-distance family visits. The Golden Week is a period of greatly heightened travel, and factories are expected to shut down over this period.Festivities could result in vessel omissions and restricted space in the run up to Golden Week.Golden Week traditionally marks the start of the Christmas rush period, with companies looking to ensure stock is received ahead of this time.Rate increases by the carriers are often associated in this period with this demand for space onboard vessels sailing from the Far East increasing over the next several months.Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 10th February 2024 and we would expect further disruptions to vessel schedules and factory shutdowns. If you have pending orders to ship in the forthcoming weeks, please ensure notice is provided to us as soon as possible to ensure bookings are secured on the earliest available vessels.Should you have any questions or queries about how this holiday may impact your consignments, please do not hesitate to contact your operational handler.
