Cyclone Tauktae to strike Gujarat, India

Cyclone Tauktae is expected to make landfall later tonight on the west coast of India. The storm has been described as ‘extremely severe’ by the India Meteorological Department and is predicted to be the worst cyclone to hit the area for the last 20 years.Heavy rains are expected in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra and the adverse weather conditions could result in delays to shipments from this part of the world. Evacuations are in effect from low lying areas with flooding being anticipated because of the heavy rains. The storm is expected to exacerbate the strain already being placed on the Indian healthcare system by the ongoing pandemic as vaccine drivers are being suspended in coastal towns deemed at risk from the storm. Please be aware that ports, such as Mundra, will likely have to operate on a slower basis due to the adverse weather conditions. Our origin counterparts are striving to ensure delays are mitigated as much as possible. If your consignments have been directly affected by this, we will advise you accordingly and if you have any questions regarding the above please do not hesitate to contact us.For more information on the flooding please visit the following links:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57139989https://news.sky.com/story/monster-cyclone-to-batter-covid-ravaged-india-as-officials-scramble-to-evacuate-hundreds-of-thousands-12309092https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/5/17/indian-state-braces-for-tauktae-most-severe-cyclone-in-decades
